New Guidelines around Gradings from December Grading for Red Stripes and above
It’s important to us that we provide the best possible training for all our students at the same time as keeping the high standards we are known for. As students’ progress through to the higher belts the syllabus can become more demanding, and we want to ensure our students are prepared for this in the best possible way. We love to see students’ progress and ultimately achieve a Black Belt, so it’s important to us that we provide the best possible training to enable this.
As a result, we want to make a couple of changes to our guidelines around grading as follows:
- From Red stripe and above students will be asked to perform the instructor’s choice pattern, this could be any pattern they have learned up to that grade, not just Dan Gun! Students will need to be confident in all their patterns before grading.
- To be eligible to grade for a Black Stripe students MUST get the green light from their instructor before registering for grading. The Black Stripe grading is a key step to Black Belt, and we want to ensure all students are ready. It is a demanding grading which requires a good level of fitness and technique, students will be expected to perform around 5 patterns with confidence. We will be expecting red belts and black stripes to attend a Black Belt club with Master Saunders at least once a month, on top of their usual classes.
- Temporary Belts – for red belt to black Stripe, we are introducing temporary belts. If the examiner feels that the student did not perform to the expected standard at the grading, they will be awarded with the Black Stripe Belt, but not the certificate. They will also be asked to retake their grading (free of charge) at the next coloured belt grading. Once they have passed this grading they will be awarded with their certificate and classed as a full Black Stripe.
We hope that you understand and support our changes, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask one of the team
